Pelvic Nerve Irritation/Pudendal Nerve

What it is

Pain in the area of the rectum, penis, or perineum – and usually occurs when there is something physically compressing the pudendal nerve. Pain also results from traumatic injury to the pelvic area, or post-surgical entrapment where a stitch may have affected the nerve path.

Pelvic pain when sitting, but improvement when standing or sitting on a toilet seat; discomfort when wearing tight clothes; bladder/bowel issues including frequency, urgency, retention, hesitation, constipation, pain; genital pain; anal pain.

Pelvic Physical Therapy for pelvic nerve irritation may include rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and related muscles, pudendal nerve and connective tissue mobilization, trigger-point release of surrounding muscles and tissues, and additional strengthening exercises.
