Persistent Prostatitis

What it is

An ongoing or chronic condition that can result from an infection or inflammation of the prostate.

Symptoms

The symptoms of prostatitis vary, and can include the frequent urge to urinate, difficulty urinating, low urine flow, pain or burning sensation when urinating, chills or fever. In addition, intermittent pain may exist in the low back, around the anus, and the groin. Pain during intercourse and/or ejaculation may also occur.

Treatment

Pelvic Physical Therapy can be an effective treatment for persistent prostatitis given the fact that pelvic floor muscle spasm may be the main cause of symptoms. Specific treatments can include customized exercises and stretches, trigger-point release techniques, or the use of modalities.
